About Me

Mag. Rita Steinhardt-Kager, MSc

I was born in Vienna in 1985 and raised here. From an early age on, I knew I wanted to become a therapist—although back then my idea was still vague, imagining all therapists to be like Sigmund Freud. Today, my understanding of psychotherapy—and of the kind of therapist I want to be—is quite different: personal, empathetic, meaning-oriented, and dialogical.

After studying Psychology and Human Resources Management, I worked for several years in the HR field. Over time, it became increasingly clear to me that I wanted to engage more deeply with the whole person—beyond professional roles. This desire led me to psychotherapy and ultimately to Existential Analysis, which touched me immediately with its human-centered and value-oriented approach.

Training to become a psychotherapist was intense and demanding, especially because it required deep personal reflection through self-experience. At the same time, I gained valuable and formative experience in various psychosocial institutions.

Today, I work in my private practice in Vienna (18th district) as well as Online—as a psychotherapist in training under supervision. I support adults in both German and English through psychological distress, personal crises, or periods of reorientation. A special focus of my work lies in women’s issues, the empowerment of women, and supporting adult women with ADHD.

What sustains me is the conviction that with an open, phenomenological attitude, every person can be met in a way that enables change. Travel and intercultural exchange have accompanied me for many years—they strengthen my commitment to respond to each therapeutic encounter with attentiveness, curiosity, and respect.

My goal is to help people unfold their personal potential within the framework of their individual life realities—towards an authentic, harmonious, and internally free life. How this life looks is yours alone to decide.

I understand that for many, it can initially feel unfamiliar to meet someone whose private life remains mostly unknown. It is natural to have questions—about values, experiences, or personal attitudes. I warmly invite you to bring up whatever concerns you. Together, we will explore what a particular question might mean for you—perhaps even in relation to what brought you to therapy.

Sometimes it seems that only someone with a similar life story can truly understand. I am convinced, however, that it is precisely the differences that allow for an open and fruitful therapeutic relationship—when we jointly focus on your world: What are you experiencing? What matters to you? Where does it become difficult—and why right now?

In Existential Analysis therapy, the therapist as a person also resonates in the process: With your consent, I will occasionally share feedback based on my experience in contact with you. Nevertheless, the therapeutic space remains primarily your space—a place where you are the center. The more this space belongs to you, the more clearly your uniqueness can emerge. And the following is also a natural part of the process: questions, irritations, or uncertainties in our relationship may—and should—be openly addressed. For it is often precisely there that something essential begins.
